Signing Off for Christmas — But Not From Fitness!

Signing Off for Christmas — But Not From Fitness! 🎄💪

Expat Gym Junkie | Always Moving Forwards

As the term wraps up and my final classes finish here in Doha, there’s always that bittersweet feeling: excitement to go home, see family, breathe in that crisp UK air… and a slight panic about leaving my routine behind!

If you’re anything like me, fitness isn’t just something you do — it’s a rhythm, a habit, a part of who you are. Teaching classes each week keeps me accountable, keeps me energised, and honestly… keeps me sane. So when Christmas comes around and I swap the studio bike for a seat on the plane home, the first thing I think is:

“How am I going to keep this momentum going?”

🎅 The Instructor Becomes the Participant

Back in the UK, I’ll do something I don’t usually get to do:
be a participant in someone else’s group exercise class!

I’m already imagining myself walking into a studio, scanning the room and thinking, “Please don’t let this be burpee-heavy… actually no — bring it on!” There’s something refreshing (and slightly humbling!) about following someone else’s cues instead of giving them.

It’s a great reminder that:

  • We all start somewhere

  • We all follow someone

  • Fitness is always a community

And honestly? I can’t wait. Being a participant lets me recharge, get inspired, and remember exactly what my own members feel in my classes.

❄️ The Christmas Fitness Challenge

Going home means routine flies out the window — mince pies appear on every table, nights out turn into slow mornings, and workouts compete with shopping, wrapping, travelling, and socialising.

But here’s the truth I tell my own riders and clients:

Fitness doesn’t stop just because the classes do.

It simply changes shape.

My goal for this Christmas holiday is simple:

  • Move daily (even 15 minutes counts)

  • Try new classes

  • Stay consistent, not perfect

  • Enjoy the food, enjoy the break, enjoy the people

Because fitness shouldn’t feel like pressure — it should feel like support.

🏡 Staying Active in the UK

Winter in the UK is very different from Doha’s endless summer, but it has its own charm. Chilly morning walks, festive 5Ks, cosy gym sessions… I’m actually looking forward to it.

My UK plan:

  • Book two group cycle classes near home

  • Do a short strength session every other day

  • Walk as much as possible (bonus points if it’s with a hot chocolate)

  • Stretch before bed — my hips always thank me during travel!

  • Try at least one new fitness class I’ve never done before

If I can tick three out of five, I’ll call that a win.

🎁 A Reminder for All My Expat Gym Junkies

If you’re travelling too — or just sliding into holiday mode — remember:

  • Something is better than nothing

  • Movement keeps your energy high

  • Routine keeps your mindset steady

  • Fitness gives structure when life gets noisy

The holiday season isn’t about being perfect. It’s about staying connected to the goals you’ve worked so hard for all year.

❤️ Thank You for an Amazing Year

To every rider, every class member, every supporter of Expat Gym Junkie — thank you. You’ve shown up, sweated, laughed, pushed harder, tried again, and grown stronger.

I can’t wait to come back in January refreshed, recharged, and full of new ideas (and probably full of Quality Street, too).

Have an amazing Christmas, stay active, and remember…

We’re always moving forwards — even at Christmas. 🎄✨
