Vacation Goals vs Reality
Vacation Goals vs. Vacation Reality: My Fitness Holiday Confession
You know those Instagram-worthy vacation shots of people cycling at sunrise, drenched in motivation, determination, and just the right amount of sweat? Yeah… that should be me. The picture-perfect version of “Expat Gym Junkie on Holiday” would be crushing an outdoor spin session with a view, heart pumping, legs flying, soaking in every ounce of that golden-hour energy.
But let’s be honest.
That’s not what’s happening on this trip.
Instead, my actual vacation workout routine looks more like this:
-
Sunbathing (because lying flat counts as core work, right?)

- Eating all the local food (research purposes, obviously 🍝🍷)
Drinking bubbly & cocktails (hydration is key, don’t argue with me)
And you know what? I’m not even mad about it.
Because here’s the truth: vacations aren’t just about discipline and dumbbells. They’re about balance. At home, I can smash my gym sessions six days a week. But when I’m away? I give myself permission to trade burpees for beach naps, protein shakes for piña coladas, and early alarms for lazy mornings.
Sure, the ideal version of me is out there spinning into the sunset like a wellness goddess. The real version? She’s digging into gelato and laughing with friends.
And that’s okay. Because the memories we make and the joy we soak up are just as important for health as the calories we burn.
So here’s my reminder (to you, and honestly to myself): it’s perfectly fine to take a break. The weights will still be waiting when we get home. And let’s be real — I’ll probably come back with more stories about tapas and tan lines than treadmills.
Until then, pass me another Aperol Spritz. Cheers to balance! 🍹✨
