Expat Gym Junkie Does Doha: Bubbles, A380s, and a Sky-High Bar

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself, it’s this: I can be equally committed to gym life and champagne life. Balance - it's all about balance. And nothing screams “balanced lifestyle” like sipping bubbles in a business class lounge before hopping on an A380 bound for Bangkok.

The Doha Business Class Lounge – AKA Bubble Heaven

Picture this: I’m perched in the ultra-glossy, very hush-hush business class lounge in Doha. Everyone’s either typing furiously on laptops pretending to be CEOs, or they’re like me—eyeballing the champagne bar the second I walk in.

Of course, I went straight for the bubbles. Crisp, cold, and poured with just the right amount of flair by a waiter who didn’t blink when I asked for “just a tad more.” (Read: a full glass, please and thank you.)

One glass turned into two, then three. Who’s counting? Not me. Not when the lounge has snacks that pair perfectly with my fizz-fueled mood. Think silky smoked salmon, tiny desserts that look too pretty to eat (but I ate them anyway), and endless sparkling water to pretend I’m hydrating.

Boarding the Big Bird: The A380

Then came the real treat: boarding the A380 to Bangkok. If you’ve never flown on this double-decker beauty, let me tell you—she’s an icon. Business class isn’t just a seat; it’s a little cocoon of luxury where you can fully recline and pretend you’re Beyoncé on tour.

The cabin crew greeted me like royalty (probably clocked the sparkle in my eyes—thanks, champagne). I tucked myself into my seat, explored the amenity kit like a kid at Christmas, and promptly ordered… you guessed it… another glass of bubbles.

Yes, There’s a Bar on Board

And then, the pièce de résistance: the onboard bar.

Mid-flight, I swanned down to the lounge area—heels clicking dramatically, because why not?—and found the cutest little bar setup in the sky. Think sleek counters, mood lighting, and a bartender who made me a cocktail that was definitely stronger than anything I’d mix at home.

Other passengers drifted in and out, but I? I set up camp. Made a few new friends, had a couple more drinks, and felt like I was at the chicest, most exclusive club—only this one was 40,000 feet in the air (and a nice selection of cheese!).

Final Thoughts from a Tipsy Gym Junkie

By the time we landed in Bangkok, I was equal parts exhilarated, exhausted, and slightly boozy. The kind of boozy where you might smile a bit too hard at immigration staff but still get waved through.

If this is how my Thailand adventures are starting, then babes, buckle up—it’s going to be one wild ride.
