Bit of me time....

Ten Days Away: Thailand Bound ✈️

In just a few days, I’ll be trading gym mats for sandy beaches, early morning spin classes for sunset cocktails, and meal prep for Thai street food. That’s right — I’m off on vacation for 10 days, flying from Doha to Thailand.

And yes, business class travel isn’t going to hurt either! A little lie-flat seat luxury before the madness of tuk-tuks, night markets, and island hopping feels like the perfect way to start this trip.

The Plan: Food, Friends, and Fun

Thailand has always been one of my favorite destinations. The food alone is worth the flight: spicy curries, fresh seafood, pad thai straight off a street cart, and all the tropical fruit smoothies I can handle. Add to that a group of friends ready for adventure, and you’ve got the recipe for a trip filled with laughter and unforgettable memories.

While training takes a back seat (for now), staying active won’t be too hard. Between exploring bustling Bangkok streets, diving into island waters, and trekking temple stairs, I’ll still get those steps in. But let’s be honest — this holiday is all about balance: enjoying the workouts when they happen, and not feeling guilty about the cocktails that follow.

Meanwhile, Back in Doha…

Expat Gym Junkie’s husband is staying behind this time, continuing his own weight-loss journey. No business class flights or Thai street food temptations for him — just focus, discipline, and determination. I’ll definitely miss him on this adventure, but I can’t wait to come back and see the progress he’s made.

Why Travel Matters

As an expat, travel is more than a holiday — it’s a chance to reset, reconnect, and remember why I chose this lifestyle in the first place. Qatar has been home for years, but trips like this remind me how lucky I am to experience the world on both sides: the grounded routines of teaching and training, and the spontaneous freedom of packing a bag and jetting off.

What’s Next

For the next 10 days, the Expat Gym Junkie blog may look a little more like a travel diary than a fitness log. Expect updates on the best eats, the must-do adventures, and maybe even a few hotel gym hacks (because I can’t stay out of the gym completely, can I?).

Thailand — here I come.
